Provide technical expertise and engineering management services during the export cable landfall and onshore works development phase.
Outcome
OCA assisted Mayflower Wind in developing and down selecting its onshore works which in turn drove the Federal and State permitting processes. The continued development of the Mayflower Wind project ensures that it remains at the forefront of the nascent offshore wind industry, and that it is on track to build out its lease area which has the potential to create over 2,000 megawatts (MW) of clean energy for the state of Massachusetts.
How did OCA get this result?
OCA managed the 30% design of the landfall HDD at multiple locations. This included bidding out the work, managing the contactor and coordinating and supervising multiple Geotechnical Investigations in the field. OCA assisted the project team in evaluating and progressing the engineering of onshore routes and the siting of a large substation at both brownfield and greenfield sites. Once the substation locations and onshore routes were selected, OCA created an RFI that went out to the market. Subsequently, over a dozen clarification calls with contractors were held to identify potential issues with the works, opportunities to reduce costs and schedule and to inform the RFP contracting strategy. OCA also assisted in the development and review of Federal and State permitting documents and analyzing project risks associated with port infrastructure and future sea level rise.
